Immunization waivers are available at the school for any student who cannot medically have immunizations or if parents object to immunization for religious or personal reasons. Immunization Information
Michigan law requires that all students must be immunized against vaccine preventable diseases to attend Cass City Public Schools. If you have an objections to any of the immunizations that are recognized under the current public health code, a waiver form is available at my office.

It is Cass City Public Schools desire to have all students up to date on their immunizations. Immunizations protect our kids and our society from diseases that were common and deadly in the past before immunizations where available.

If you have any questions regarding your child’s immunizations please contact me. I have posted a required immunizations link and an informational link for parents on HPV, meningococcal and other vaccines for pre-teens and teens. The state recommends that children have their shots updated in the 6th grade. If they are not updated at this time, children become over due and do not meet state requirements around age 14 and 15. It is a requirement to have a dose of Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis within the last ten years. If your child was not updated in the 6th grade, please immunize as soon as possible to avoid exclusion from school. Cass City Public Schools does not desire to exclude anyone because of immunizations, but this is a state mandate. Our goal is to have healthy and responsible students. Please help us in this goal.

Thank You,

Michigan Profile for Healthy Youth

In the spring, students in the 7th, 9th, and 11th grades participated in an online survey called the Michigan Profile for Healthy Youth (MPHY). Here is some of the information collected.

In the 7th grade

10.8% of students had sexual intercourse
6% before the age of 11

In the 9th grade

30.4% of students had sexual intercourse
6.9% before the age of 13

18.8% had sexual intercourse with one or more
people in the last 3 months

Out of those students 52.6% had drank alcohol
or used drugs before the last  sexual intercourse.

In the 11th grade

46% of students had sexual intercourse
2.3% before the age of 13

43.7% had sexual intercourse with one or more
people in the last 3 months

Out of those students 29.7% had drank alcohol
or used drugs before the last sexual intercourse.

These statistics are alarming to the committee. We believe we are responsible to educate students to become healthy and responsible members of society. Please check out the Michigan Model website at www.emc.cmich.edu/mm/default.htm We value your opinion. As a committee we want to reflect the community's values and needs. Thank you for filling out the parent survey sent home with your child. If you did not recieve one please download a copy and return it to Campbell Elementary, ATTN: Kathy LaPonsie RN. This is an anonymous survey.

Thank You,

The Healthy and Responsible Relationships Committee
