The regular meeting of the Cass City Board of Education was called to order on August 28, 2006, at 7:30 p.m. in the Cass City High School Board Room by President Michelle Biddinger.
The members present were Michelle Biddinger, Danny Haag, Cathy Kropewnicki, Douglas Lautner and Randy Severance. Absent were Teresa Rabideau and James Turner. Also present were Superintendent Wilson, Principal Daniels, Principal Hartel, Principal Fernald, Counselor Frederiksen and Student Representative Kyle Swanson.
It was moved by Douglas Lautner, seconded by Cathy Kropewnicki, that the minutes of the special meeting held August 23, 2006, be approved with the following correction 6:30 a.m. not p.m. The motion carried unanimously.
It was moved by Danny Haag, seconded by Cathy Kropewnicki, that the bills in the amount of $142,732.98 be paid in their entirety. The motion carried unanimously.
Public Participation – None.
The M.A.S.B. Board of Directors election ballot was discussed. There was no one from Region 5, so no action was taken.
Cass City is able to send two delegates to the fall M.A.S.B. delegate assembly on Thursday, November 9, 2006, in Detroit. Anyone interested in attending are to let Michelle Biddinger know.
It was moved by Douglas Lautner, seconded by Randy Severance, to authorizeSuperintendent Wilson to sign over the deed to the Deford Elementary School to Stuart and Brenda Venema. Stuart and Brenda purchased the Deford Elementary School for $57,000.00. The motion carried unanimously.
It was moved by Randy Severance, seconded by Danny Haag, to approve hiring David Bitzer for the 8th grade science position. The motion carried unanimously.
It was moved by Danny Haag, seconded by Cathy Kropewnicki, to adopt the Educational Technology Plan addendum as presented. The motion carried unanimously.
It was moved by Randy Severance, seconded by Cathy Kropewnicki, to adopt the budget revision policy as presented. (A copy is in the Secretary’s book.) The motion carried unanimously.
It was moved by Douglas Lautner, seconded by Randy Severance, to adopt the Student/Staff Relationship policy as presented. (A copy is in the Secretary’s book.) The motion carried unanimously.
Superintendent Wilson presented a legal update on the Novesta Township fire run bill. The Cass City Public Schools was advised not to pay the bill.
Performance contracting was discussed. It was moved by Douglas Lautner, seconded by Danny Haag, to go forward with contract negotiations with Honeywell. An actual physical contract will be presented at the September Board meeting. The motion carried unanimously.
It was moved by Michelle Biddinger, seconded by Douglas Lautner, to approve closed campus for 9th, 10th and 11th graders and to have the campus open to seniors who qualify. The motion carried unanimously.
It was moved by Douglas Lautner, seconded by Danny Haag, to adjourn the meeting. The motion carried unanimously.
