March 26, 2007
                The regular meeting of the Cass City Board of Education was called to order on March 26, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. in the Cass City High School Cafeteria by President Michelle Biddinger.
 
                The members present were Michelle Biddinger, Douglas Lautner, Randy Severance, Danny Haag, James Turner, Teresa Rabideau and Cathy Kropewnicki. Also present were: Superintendent Wilson, H.S. Principal Daniels, M.S. Principal Hartel, Campbell Principal Fernald, Counselor Frederiksen and Student Representative Kyle Swanson. 
 
                It was moved by Douglas Lautner, second by Teresa Rabideau, that the minutes of the regular meeting held February 26, 2007 be approved as sent. The motion carried unanimously.
 
                It was moved by Danny Haag, seconded by James Turner, that the bills in the amount of $99,068.35 be paid in their entirety. The motion carried unanimously.
 
Public Participation – None
 
                It was moved by Danny Haag, seconded by Randy Severance, that letters of recognition be sent to the following students.
 
 a. Boy’s Basketball players who received All-Conference recognition were:
                     First Team – Brad Hartel, Second Team – Andrew Martin,  
                                           Honorable Mention – Cameron Lautner
                b. Girl’s Volleyball players who received All-Conference recognition were:
                     First Team – Sarah Meeker, Second Team- Emily Schinnerer, Carly Howard, and
                                           Amanda Langenburg, Honorable Mention – Megan VanVliet and
                                           Ashleigh Rabideau.                
                c. Wrestlers who received All-Conference recognition were:
                     First Team – Andrew Peruski, Kyle Sieradzki and Travis Mabe, Second Team –
                                                Dennis Bowen, Kyle Reif and Abrien Swires, Honorable Mention –
                                           Zach McCreedy, Ken Grady, Jeremy Farr, Kevven Dorland, Ryan King
                                           and Clark Walsh
 
               d. Gymnastic Regional Qualifiers were: Allie Richards, Caitlin Sorenson, Theresa
                                                                                    Imgraben and Allie Hillaker.
 
The motion carried unanimously.
 
                It was moved by James Turner, seconded by Cathy Kropewnicki, that a letter of congratulations be sent to Ms. Harris and the Cass City High School Bandmembers for earning a Division I Rating at the District Band Festival. The motion carried unanimously.
 
                Mr. Jim Berry of American Output presented a plan to the Board for the leasing of copy machines to the district. The maintenance agreement includes a five (5) year program, with a fixed cost per month. All parts/supplies and training for the equipment will be provided.
 
                It was moved by Douglas Lautner, seconded by Teresa Rabideau to accept the DS4848 as presented in the monthly budget update. The motion carried unanimously.
 
 
               
                A proposed policy change to increase building use rental costs was presented at the February 2007 board meeting.   It was moved by Randy Severance, seconded by Danny Haag, to approve Superintendent Wilson’s recommendation to increase building use costs by 50%. The motion carried unanimously.   
 
                The following high school policy changes were reviewed. They are: Testing Out Policy and Correspondence Course Policy. Since this is the initial review, action will be taken at the April board meeting.
 
                It was moved by Douglas Lautner, seconded by Michelle Biddinger, that Jeff Hartel represent Cass City as this years “Friend of Youth” at the Thumb Meet of Champs held in Caro. The motion carried unanimously.
 
                The Tuscola County School Boards Spring Dinner will be held April 24th at Kingston High School. Superintendent Wilson will need a count from Board members planning to attend.
 
                At 8:15 P.M. is was moved by Cathy Kropewnicki, seconded by James Turner, that the Board go into closed session to discuss two (2) student expulsions and superintendent evaluations.
 
                It was moved by James Turner, seconded by Teresa Rabideau that the Board return to open session. The motion carried unanimously.
 
After returning to open session, action was taken on the following:Expulsion #1 – It was moved by Randy Severance, seconded by Douglas Lautner, to readmit this student on the one (1) point rule. The motion carried unanimously.
 
Expulsion #2 – It was moved by Danny Haag, seconded by Michelle Biddinger, to readmit this student on the one (1) point rule. The motion carried unanimously.
 
Superintendent Wilson’s evaluations were found favorable and his contract was renewed, per the budget committee’s recommendation.
 
                Having no further business, at 10:50 p.m. it was moved by James Turner, seconded by Teresa Rabideau, that the meeting be adjourned. The motion carried unanimously.
