I am a lifelong resident of the Cass City area. My education has taken place at Campbell Elementary, Caro Community Schools, Michigan State University (where I earned my Bachelor of Science degree with a major in mathematics and a minor in general science), and Saginaw Valley State University (where I earned my Master of Arts degree). I am certified to teach math and science.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my wife and kids. I am also an avid deer hunter; so much of my fall is spent in the woods. I also have some duties at church that keep me occupied. I have work experience in farming, custodial work, and construction, and of course, education, as well as some minor experience in drafting, landscaping, and woodworking.
My favorite part of teaching is helping young people grow in their understanding of things they know, and learn new things. I love to watch students get interested in a subject and then begin to relate it to their lives in meaningful ways. And when connections are made between different things they are learning about and they have those "Aha" moments, it is very rewarding. My biggest struggle as an educator is to help students see past the hard work of the present to enjoy the fruits of their labors in the future. When they give up when it gets tough, it is likely that they will never reach the point of seeing how it all fits together.
