I have enjoyed teaching fifth grade at Cass City for the past 14 years. My goals as a teacher have been to create a safe and inviting learning environment where students are given the opportunity to achieve to their fullest potential. I feel that all students can learn when given the opportunity to achieve and be accepted. Our curriculum is extensive and students learn best when they are given the opportunity to discover things first hand. I do this through investigations, hands on experiments, and real world experiences. I promote and expect my students to use the pillars of character in the classroom. These pillars are trustworthiness, responsibility, respect, fairness, citizenship, and caring. These are skills that will then be carried over into other areas of their life.
I obtained my bachelors degree from Central Michigan University with a Major in Science and a Minor in Language Arts. Since that time, I have taken numerous classes, seminars, and workshops to continue my education. Recently I received a certificate from Michigan State University in Technology Leadership, and I am currently taking classes in Balanced Literacy. I am involved with the LAP grant, which is a program that enhances literacy and achievement with all students.
When I am not teaching, I like to spend time with my family. I have been married for 13 years and have three wonderful children. We enjoy camping, riding bikes, vacationing and spending time together. I have many hobbies such as reading, gardening, and walking through nature. The world is a wonderful place when we have a chance to explore and learn about it.
