Community Advisory Committee (CAC)



Purpose

The purpose of the Community Advisory Committee is to have school, parent and youth voices to help build awareness, School Wellness Program identity, and review policies and services.

Meetings


  • The CAC must include a mix of school staff, SWP staff, parents, youth and others to ensure that the school population is represented.
  • At least 2 meetings per year. Likely more in the beginning as the SWP program is being developed.
  • Meetings may be in-person or virtual.
  • Decisions are made by consensus, as appropriate.

Key Responsibilities of CAC members:


  • Serve as a liaison between students, parents, and SWP staff:
    • Be a credible source of information about SWP services.
    • Talk to parents/students/staff about SWP services to build awareness.
    • Gather feedback from parents/students/staff to assess satisfaction with services, program improvements, or other ideas for improving the health and well-being of students.
  • Provide input on "branding", or the creation of the SWP health center identity.
  • Share ideas for making clinic spaces welcoming to all students.
  • Review policies and documents, as required by MDHHS.
  • Provide input on health focus areas of concern to facilitate program planning, e.g. vaping, nutrition, bullying, and depression.
