JH Track
The Jr. High Track & Field teams traveled to Shepherd to compete in the State MegaSTARS track meet on Wednesday, May 31st. Our competitors set high goals and exceeded their limits to bring home some new PRs, school recors and well deserved hardware! First honors go to our field event participants. Lexi Tamlyn jumped 14 feet 4 1/2 inches in the women's long jump and brought home a medal for 6th place. In the women's pole vault, Jaidyn Van Vliet jumped 7 feet 6 inches and brought home a 3rd place medal. In the men's pole vault, Preston Dorland shattered his school record and added an additional 12 inches to set the new school record of 11 feet 6 inches. This ranks him tied for 3rd in the state of Michigan and 3rd in the Nation for 7th grade men. In the women's shot put, Shayler McIntyre threw 36 feet and 10 1/2 inches and earned a 3rd place medal. Brynlee McIntyre was one of twelve 6th grade girls who qualified to participate in the meet and threw 34 feet 3 1/2 inches to set a new PR in the women's shot put. Now to give shout outs for the running events. The women's 4 x 100 meter relay consisting of Claire Walker, Elyse Hoppe, Shayler McIntyre and Skylar Ignash set a new PR with a time of 55.84 and were .2 seconds away from the school record. The men's 4x100 meter relay consisting of Preston Dorland, Ryan Robinson, Aiden Brinkman, and Braxton Kolacz set a new school record for the 2nd time this season with a time of 49.07 and placed 8th! The men's 4 x 200 meter relay consisting of Preston Dorland, Ryan Robinson, Jack Betts, and Braxton Kolacz were Champions and broke the school record for the 3rd time this season. The new record stands at 1:38.97. The men's 4 x 400 meter relay consisting of Brad Richards, Landen Whetstone, Brady Krueger, and Jack Betts finished with more hardware and left the track with a 3rd place medal and a time of 3:58.93. Last but not least, we had some athletes who competed in some open races and managed to finish with some new school record times. Braxton Kolacz broke the school record in the 200 meter for the 3rd time this season and finished 4th with a time of 24.36 seconds. Brad Richards also ran the 200 meter and set a new PR with a time of 26.67 seconds. Jack Betts was the 400 meter champion and broke the school record for the 2nd time this season with a time of 54.34 seconds. Brad Richards also ran the 400 meter and set a new PR with a time of 58.09 seconds and took 8th place. The men's team finished in 4th place while the women's team finished 15th out of 82 division 3 and 4 schools. This season has been one to go down in history as remarkable and record breaking as they managed to break eight school records this season.
